About Us

Multiminded Design designer makers are Fiona Birkbeck and Jim Bell. They both have very creative backgrounds even before their design work – Fiona’s is as a screenwriter and filmmaker in TV and so has been an ideas person for most of her career and Jim’s is as an animator and soundtrack producer.

They are music fanatics who also DJ in their free time at some of their favourite venues in the North East, particularly the Ouseburn, and at Lindisfarne Festival.

Fiona initially started a boutique creative agency with the aim of storytelling by bringing things to life through digital media which was a great grounding for moving into product design. For the past five years one of their main specialisms has been working with architects bringing buildings to life through animation, 3D video production and websites so bringing Multiminded Design wall art to life by giving it an almost 3D aspect to make it stand out from the back of the frame is a natural progression.

With their background as DJs and animators of club projections Fiona and Jim knew how hard it was to find gifts for like minded music fanatics so wanted to develop their own. When people started asking how they could get hold of things they had designed for DJ nights and events they knew they were onto something. Gifts for music fanatics. Made by music fanatics. They felt they had the right tag line for gifts with a unique spin.

But it wasn’t just about music. Fiona and Jim also wanted to use their passion for the North East and capture a sense of the places they love.

It’s lovely to hear from customers as to why they have ordered a particular wooden landmark picture and why that place is so special to them. Fiona and Jim feel incredibly honoured that their tributes to these wonderful places are on display and being enjoyed in different homes all around the country.
